MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 15, 2021 04:23 PM
From: Senator David G. Argall and Sen. Scott Martin, Sen. Michele Brooks
To: All Senate members
Subject: Ensuring SNAP Benefits Are Not Being Spent on Deceased Individuals

In order to ensure that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are not being spent on those who are no longer living, we will introduce legislation to ensure that the Department of Human Services checks death certificates with the Department of Health’s Bureau of Vital Statistics against its recipients of Medical Assistance and SNAP benefits.

The Department will be required to check these death certificates on a monthly basis to ensure that precious assistance dollars are not wasted and subject to potential fraud.

It's our hope that this legislation will help ensure that important public funds dedicated to helping those who need it the most reach as many Pennsylvanians as possible.

Please join us in supporting this legislation.

Introduced as SB1124
