Subject: | Sen. John Yudichak Commerce Parkway |
It is not often that we as elected officials have an opportunity to envision, plan, execute, and then behold a transformative project in our legislative district. And, even more rare, are those projects where the benefits are so powerful that the county, broader region, and even the entire state realize the magnitude of the endeavor. Completion of the South Valley Parkway in the Wyoming Valley of Luzerne County is one such example. This project was spearheaded by former Senator John Yudichak. This new roadway is part of a larger, 3-plus mile road improvement project that includes Nanticoke, Hanover Township, and Wilkes-Barre. The Commonwealth’s overall $90 million infrastructure investment has attracted an astonishing $1 billion in private investment in South Valley communities. More than a dozen national and international companies are fueling the economic development, resulting in the creation of more than 6,000 jobs. Commerce is vibrant and congestion on other existing roads is lessened. And this all happened on scarred mining lands reclaimed for reutilization. The South Valley Parkway is an unrivaled Luzerne County success story. To commemorate the vision and hard work that epitomizes Pennsylvania’s history, present, and future, we propose naming the South Valley Parkway the “Senator John Yudichak Commerce Parkway.” Luzerne County knows and understands the impact of Senator Yudichak’s commitment, and this recognition will allow others who travel the route to better understand who championed the effort. Please join us in supporting this worthy endeavor. |
