To: All Senate members
Subject: Implementing Recommendations of the Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Task Force
 
In response to the work conducted by the Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Task Force, we will be introducing legislation to implement their recommendations to better the system.
 
Specifically, our legislation will do the following:
 
  • create a reinvestment fund to support evidence-based alternatives to court involvement for youth;
  • expand and require publication of certain data collected on the juvenile justice system;
  • expand the membership of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Committee within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to include more legislator, youth, and family membership;
  • establish a statewide youth and family advisory group on juvenile justice; and
  • require racial impact statements for policies related to the juvenile justice system.
