Subject: | Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month in Pennsylvania |
I will introduce a resolution designating September 2021 as “Drug-Free Pain management Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. The purpose of this resolution is to commemorate the hard work done by Pennsylvania-licensed Doctors of Chiropractic that focus on the whole person in their care approach to pain management and health care. Over 100 million people suffer with chronic pain and an estimated 80% of all Americans will experience some form of back pain during their lifetime. Unfortunately, many people have taken to prescription opioid use and abuse which is now a national health crisis. From 1999 to 2019, almost half a million Americans died from overdoses related to prescription opioids. In 2019, 49,860 people died from opioid overdoses in the United Stated which accounted for 70.6% of all drug overdoses that year. Chiropractic care is a primary first-line, non-pharmacologic approach to safely and effectively relieve acute, subacute and chronic pain. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize all the hard work and dedication to care that our Doctors of Chiropractic practice every day in Pennsylvania. |
