Subject: | Further Oversight for Pennsylvania's Drug Abuse Treatment Providers |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation similar to legislation being proposed in the House, that would allow the Commonwealth to develop a regimen of fines to assist in bringing drug abuse treatment providers into compliance with Pennsylvania law and consistent with the PA Auditor General’s 2017 recommendations. Currently, the Pennsylvania State Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) has oversight of PA licensed drug abuse treatment centers. However, DDAP has no ability to fine providers that are out of compliance, even for repeat violations. For additional information on why this legislation may be necessary, read the following article for a more in-depth perspective; https://khn.org/news/article/addiction-treatment-providers-in-pa-face-little-state-scrutiny-despite-harm-to-clients/. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
