Subject: | COVID-19 PIAA Athletic Events Parent/Guardian Attendance |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation providing for the allowance of two parent/guardian passes to be given to each athlete participating in any sporting event governed by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), for as long as COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines remain in place. As you know, the PIAA recently announced that PIAA athletic sporting events will be played with some modifications to address COVID-19 concerns. One of the modifications is that spectators will not be allowed to attend those sporting events. While I understand the need to social distance as part of COVID-19 guidelines and most importantly, protecting our student athletes and coaches, I think it is essential for parents or guardians to be able to attend and show their support for their child participating in those events. Consequently, my legislation would provide that each student athlete be allowed two passes by the PIAA that they can give to their parent or guardian to attend the event and schools which are hosting those events could still follow social distancing guidelines. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
