Subject: | Study of PASSHE System’s sustainability |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study of the long-term viability and sustainability of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). Several constituents voiced concerns about the future of PASSHE. The resolution will look at revenues and expenses of PASSHE, including long-term debt and benefits for employees. The resolution will also look at possible savings that could be implemented to reduce costs to students and taxpayers. Furthermore, the resolution will examine infrastructure needs for all 14 universities. The resolution will use the input of PASSHE students, PASSHE, the Board of Governors, the Office of the Chancellor, the Councils of Trustees, university presidents, faculty, alumni, and business leaders, among others. I’m hopeful this resolution will provide taxpayers with a more in-depth look at the future of PASSHE and determine if any changes need to be implemented. |
