Subject: | Resolution asking Congress and the President to review unfair government-sponsored anthracite exports by China, Russia and Ukraine |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution calling on Congress and the President to review an issue that is currently crippling domestic coal production: Government-sponsored anthracite coal production in China, Russia and Ukraine provides unfair competition with domestically mined coal, providing government subsidies which reduce their prices far below market rates. My resolution will ask Congress and the President to review this issue, including the consideration of tariffs on coal imported from China, Russia and Ukraine to provide a level playing field for American coal production. In northeastern Pennsylvania, the anthracite coal industry accounts for more than 1,000 Pennsylvania jobs and contributes $200 million to Pennsylvania’s economy. This resolution will be similar to Senate Resolution 353 of 2014, which was co-sponsored by Senators Solobay, White, Boscola, Kasunic, Vulakovich, Browne, Alloway, Scarnati, Gordner and Yudichak. |
