Subject: | Fee Waiver for Purple Heart Recipient License Plate Legislation |
I am introducing legislation to waive the Department of Transportation (Penndot) fee to acquire a license plate designating a Purple Heart award recipient. The Purple Heart has been awarded since 1932 to those wounded or killed in service of the United States military. In 1986, the Pennsylvania General Assembly created the Purple Heart license plate for recipients of the award. Since that time, applicants for the plate have been required to pay Penndot's fee for a replacement plate, which currently stands at $11. My legislation waives the fee for the Purple Heart license plate and will only apply to new applicants, making the financial impact negligible. I believe we owe an enormous and eternal debt to the men and women who have laid their bodies on the line on our behalf. This license plate program is a wonderful way to recognize the service and sacrifice of our combat veterans. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation to share our appreciation for our wounded combat veterans. |
