Subject: | Applying a Freeze to COLA through 2022 in Response to COVID-19 |
The COVID-19 virus crisis has had a negative impact on our whole world. Businesses, public places of every kind, gatherings of various sizes, most have been made to cease operations or close. Our economy has especially taken a very hard hit, Pennsylvania’s residents are making sacrifices, and many of our neighbors are struggling just to feed their families. Building upon Act 79 of 2020, I plan on introducing legislation that would amend the Public Official Compensation Law to put a freeze on Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) through 2022 as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. While our Commonwealth is facing a shortfall of revenue, in amounts of epic proportion, there is not one positive reason for public officials to continue to receive a COLA. It is the very least we can do to make this small sacrifice when so many of the residents of Pennsylvania are having to make hard decisions because of the changes to their financial situation because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
