Subject: | Co-sponsorship: Licensing Medical Physicists |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation (HB1344) which would establish a State Board of Medical Physicists. This Board will provide oversight of the profession. Its duties and powers are outlined in the legislation as are fees and funding. The legislation establishes qualifications for licensure, including testing requirements. For many of us, we don’t know what a medical physicist does for a living. If you, or a loved one, has ever had cancer, the medical physicist is the professional who determines how much medication (chemotherapy and/or radiation) you need to receive to kill the cancer. An indispensable service is the accurate measurement of the radiation output from radiation sources employed in cancer therapy. Medical physicists are heavily trained in the STEM sciences. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Tricarico at 717-772-5568, Democratic Extension 6168 or mtricari@pahouse.net. Thank you. Previous co-sponsors (HB1344): READSHAW, CALTAGIRONE, D.
