Subject: | LEGISLATION - AMENDING THE LOCAL SHARE PROVISIONS OF THE GAMING ACT |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will amend the local share provisions of the Gaming Act to provide reimbursement for a contiguous township to Hollywood Casino. While the Gaming Act currently allocates local share assessments to primarily just the county and municipality hosting the casino, the Gaming Act also recognizes that a few casinos impact more than one county and distribute local share accordingly. Such changes are permitted to reflect costs local communities incur due to the proximity of the casino to the community and the impact on municipal costs and emergency services. For example, local share assessments from the Sands is shared with both Northampton and Lehigh Counties, and local share assessments from Mt. Airy is shared with both Monroe and contiguous counties. Given that a portion of Hollywood Casino is located in Lebanon County, it is incongruous that North Londonderry Township, despite being a contiguous township, does not currently receive a portion of this casino’s assessment. For this reason, I will be introducing legislation to correct this deficiency. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
