|Subject:||Cosponsorship of Legislation - Long-Term Care Consumer Relocation Coordination Act|
|I am reintroducing legislation that I had proposed last session as HB 497, PN 0519 . This bill was a part of an elder care package that passed the House of Representatives in June 2012. Unfortunately, the bill died in the Senate. HB 497 developed out of concerns regarding a situation in my area where a personal care home resident was transferred from a facility in one county to another county and, due to horribly inadequate care and a lack of communication between the facilities and the local area agencies on aging, the resident died a tragic death. I found the story of this woman absolutely heartbreaking and totally unacceptable, and I want to take action necessary to ensure that such circumstances never happen again in Pennsylvania.
My legislation would require long-term care facilities where residents transfer from one facility to another to provide notification of such move not only to the other facility but also to the affected local area agencies on aging. This proposal will help to guarantee through enactment into law that the local area agencies on aging have the information they need to utilize their resources in the best interest of older Pennsylvanians.
I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you for your interest and support.
