Subject: | Amending Act 511 of 1965, known as the Local Tax Enabling Act to provide for more funding for fire and emergency medical services |
In the near future, I will be introducing a bill amending Act 511 of 1965, known as the Local Tax Enabling Act to provide for more funding for fire and emergency medical services. This will be different than the bill I introduced last session, HB1924, in that we will use a different local tax. My proposal will increase the per capita tax from $10 to $15. This bill would require that the additional $5 tax to be used to fund fire and emergency medical services. With the continued financial pressures on our volunteer fire departments this will give our local governments additional flexibility in funding our first responders. Our volunteer fire departments, ambulance and rescue squads personnel are under continued pressure and time commitments for fund raising and training. This should help with recruitment and retention in our emergency services. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation by clicking on the link below.
