Subject: | Leveling the playing field for PA-based household goods movers |
Pennsylvania-based household goods movers are at a competitive disadvantage compared to movers based in our neighboring states of New York and New Jersey. Movers in those states are able to obtain a permit through the PA Public Utility Commission and are authorized to move household goods within our state. However, due to strict domiciliary (residency) requirements for household goods movers established in those states, Pennsylvania-based movers cannot operate in New York and New Jersey. In order to level the playing field, I will be re-introducing legislation that will benefit our state-based household goods movers by mirroring the same requirements put into place in New York and New Jersey. This legislation will require that contracted carriers must reside within the Commonwealth to operate in Pennsylvania. |
