Subject: | Legislation – Security Breach |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend the Credit Reporting Agency Act to assist PA residents in the event of a security breach. As we have heard of yet another security breach, it is imperative that we do all that we can to assist and protect the personal information of our residents. Specifically, my proposal will prohibit security freeze fees and require the consumer reporting agency that was hacked to reimburse the consumer for costs to access their consumer report. Under current law, a consumer credit reporting agency may charge a reasonable fee, not exceeding $10, for each placement or removal of a security freeze. Please note, consumers who are victims of identity theft and persons 65 years of age and older are exempt from the fee. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to protect our residents. If you have any questions, please contact me at 717-783-8875. |
