MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2013 02:37 PM
From: Representative Jim Cox
To: All House members
Subject: Social Security Numbers on Hunting & Fishing License Applications

In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that will eliminate the requirement for disclosure of social security numbers on hunting and fishing license applications.

Currently, Pennsylvania law requires individuals to disclose their social security numbers on these types of applications. Consequently, individuals have expressed their concerns about the possibility of identity theft if such information is not properly safeguarded by licensing agents. Therefore, this legislation is being proposed to eliminate those concerns and to ensure the privacy and safeguarding of information.

Co-sponsors to prior versions of this legislation include:

Caltagirone, Causer, Clymer, Cohen, Denlinger, Gabler, Gillen, Gingrich, Goodman, Hahn, Harhart, Hess, Kauffman, Knowles, Kortz, Major, Maloney, Micozzie, Millard, Milne, Mundy, Murt, O'Neill, Readshaw, Reese, Roae, Rock, Sainato, Swanger, and Tallman.
