Subject: | April 2022 as "Testicular Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be reintroducing a resolution designating April 2022 as “Testicular Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. While not a common disease, testicular cancer primarily affects men between the ages of twenty and forty with the average age of diagnosis being thirty-three years old. Estimates show that approximately 1 in every 250 males will develop testicular cancer during their lifetime. In fact, the American Cancer Society has projected that there will be nearly ten thousand newly diagnosed cases of testicular cancer in the United States this year alone. According to studies done by various organizations, men are less likely to schedule regular health examinations and give self-examinations for a variety of common diseases. Due to this, projections indicate that there will be around 450 deaths related to testicular cancer this year alone. At the same time, there is a relatively higher rate of success of curing or properly treating testicular cancer if detected early on. In other words, many of the deaths associated with this type of cancer could have been prevented if treatment was sought sooner. Early detection and treatment are critical in lowering the mortality rate associated with testicular cancer. That is why I hope that this resolution will encourage men to introduce positive health-related habits into their lives. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
