Subject: | Samuel Newman Way |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation naming both Southbound and Northbound lanes of Washington Street where the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg is located as “Samuel Newman Way.” Mr. Samuel Newman was an exemplary pillar of the community. His leadership and generosity was evident in all of his philanthropic endeavors. This was especially evident in the benevolence he showed to the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg where he was a long-time active board member and in which he served with great passion. Sam gave abundantly to the development of the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter, Salvation Army Food Bank and other charitable undertakings of the organization. Sam was also instrumental in the expansion of Camelback Ski Resort which has become one of the largest and most successful resorts in the Poconos. As part of the expansion of Camelback, Sam introduced high-speed lifts, snow tubing as well as Camel Beach, the first waterpark in the region. In 2007, Sam was awarded the Distinguished Services Award by the National Ski Patrol System and he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Ski and Water Sports Museum Hall of Fame in 2008. Sam sat on numerous boards for charitable organizations, local government and professional associations. Please join me in naming Samuel Newman Way in remembrance of Samuel Newman who was a very engaged and well-respected member of our community in Stroudsburg, Monroe County. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
