Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Resolution that recognizes May 12, 2018 as the second annual “Philadelphia Literacy Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the coming weeks, we will be introducing a Resolution that recognizes May 12, 2018 as the second annual “Philadelphia Literacy Day” in Pennsylvania. The House of Representatives acknowledges the benefits of reading and writing proficiency attained through early literacy education, adult literacy education, and lifelong learning. The second annual Philadelphia Literacy Day is slated for the Saturday before Mother’s Day. It is presented by Tree House Books in partnership with the Read by 4th and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. As many of you know, in Pennsylvania, we have over 1.7 million school-aged students enrolled in schools across our great Commonwealth. As such, investing in our children’s education now ensures a healthy economy and citizenry for decades to come. With that said, it is important for us to note the personal determination and collective action required for Philadelphians and other residents of this Commonwealth to broaden their abilities to read and write. To that end, we invite you to join us by co-sponsoring this Resolution. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Takesha Latham at tlatham@pahouse.net |
