Subject: | Proposed Legislation –Medicaid Block Grant |
I will be re-introducing a resolution (HR 845) urging Congress to enact a block-grant program for Medicaid to provide states with the flexibility to control costs and promote innovation which encourages autonomy and ultimately result in better quality care for Medicaid beneficiaries. The Medicaid program that exist today is unfair to those it serves, those who provide the services, and all those who pay for the program—taxpayers. This program requires all states to implement a one-size-fits-all mandate from the federal government. States have little ability to improve benefits and cut costs. Washington bureaucrats make the determinations on the program details like eligibility standards, benefit packages, and provider reimbursement rates. Any state who dares to make variations or implement reforms based on their knowledge of what is best for their own residents is required to apply for federal approval which can take years. We need to give states back the power to run these programs. States are already spending more on Medicaid and public welfare than any other initiative in their budgets. The program’s costs are unsustainable. Previous co-sponsors include:SAYLOR, PERRY, BLOOM, AUMENT, BAKER, BARRAR, CUTLER, EVERETT, GILLESPIE, GINGRICH, GROVE, HARRIS, HELM, HESS, KAUFFMAN, M. K. KELLER, MACKENZIE, MARSICO, METCALFE, MILLER, MILNE, RAPP, ROAE, SWANGER and MOUL I hope you will consider joining me in support of this important resolution.
