Subject: | LBFC Study to Evaluate Outcomes of Act 44 of 2018 and The School Safety and Security Grant Program |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to conduct a study evaluating the outcomes of the School Safety and Security Grant Program, and provide recommendations regarding future, potential legislative actions. Act 44 of 2018 created the School Safety and Security Grant Program, established the Safe2Say Something Program, and formed the School Safety and Security Committee at the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). Since 2018, we have enacted several legislative measures to strengthen these programs to better protect our children, teachers, visitors and provide schools across the Commonwealth with the resources they need. At the present time, five years since the enactment of Act 44 of 2018, there is an opportunity to examine the success of this program, with the objective of improving procedures and ensuring funding is being used as efficiently and effectively as possible. Under this resolution, the LBFC would be directed to conduct a study relevant to evaluating the outcomes of the School Safety and Security Grant Program. The LBFC will reach out to stakeholders, departments, organizations and appropriate agencies to gain insight and provide recommendations regarding future, potential legislative actions so we can continue to address the safety of our students and best serve our schools in communities throughout the Commonwealth. All information collected will be held with the utmost confidentiality, and no identifying markers will be contained in the report. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
