| CAREER: | First elected to the General Assembly in 1994, Senator Lisa Boscola is serving her second term representing the 18th District, consisting of Northampton, Lehigh and Monroe Counties. Senator Boscola serves as the Democratic Chair of the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee and also serves as a member of the Appropriations Committee. Senator Boscola's current legislative and community priorities include: Working with Governor Ed Rendell to bring $1 billion in property tax relief to the homeowners of Pennsylvania, as well as to implement spending controls over school districts Ensuring that our emergency services are equipped with the tools necessary to protect our communities, through grant and loan programs Saying no to every state tax increase and legislative pay raise and pension increase in the last ten years Securing over $800,000 in grants that kicked off the clean up of the Route 33 tire pile, eliminating not only an eyesore but an environmental hazard Securing $100,000 in grant monies to identify and correct the source of the sinkhole problem in Stockertown, Tatamy and Palmer Township Continuing her success with securing funds for womens health programs, including a first time appropriation for DES awareness and education in the State Budget Controlling the expansion of local landfills by stopping the rising tide of more and more out-of-state trash pouring into Pennsylvania Bringing home our areas fair share of State funds by fighting for and personally delivering more than $5 million dollars in grants for local, worthwhile projects Supporting long-term solutions to the continuing hardship of medical costs on seniors, such as providing higher assisted living supplements and prescription drug coverage for all seniors. A long-time advocate of community organizations, Senator Boscola has led successful efforts in the Senate to increase funding for not only fire fighters throughout the Commonwealth, but also volunteer ambulance and rescue services. Her amendment to Act 66 of 2000 increased the size of state grants to assist volunteer fire departments and rescue services purchase or upgrade their equipment and facilities. Senator Boscola has also provided funding to many other community groups, such as service organizations, community pride efforts, downtown revitalization efforts, local fire schools and youth sports organizations. Women Dornblaser Award; 1996 Colonial Northampton Alliance for Public Schools Distinguished Graduate Award; 1997 Miss PA Scholarship Organization Woman of Achievement Award; 1997 YWCA Outstanding Public Servant Award; and 1998 APIA Outstanding American of Italian Descent; 1999 Circle of Excellence Award, Freedom High School Hall of Fame; 1999 Nike Award from Emmaus Business and Professional Women's Club; and 2000 Legislative Fellow from East Stroudsburg Univ.; Member of House 1995-98; Member of Senate 1999 to date. Senator Boscola resides in Lower Saucon Township with her husband, Ed Boscola. |
