| Subject: | Resolution Designating the Month of May 2014 as "Older Americans Month in Pennsylvania" |
| In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the month of May 2014 as Older Americans Month in Pennsylvania. This is the General Assembly’s opportunity to recognize the many contributions of Pennsylvania’s older citizenry. As legislators, we must continue to provide them with support and encouragement. This year’s theme --- “Safe Today, Healthy Tomorrow”--- focuses on injury prevention. Sadly, older Americans are at a much higher risk of unintentional injury than the rest of population, resulting in at least 6 million medically treated injuries and more than 30,000 deaths every year. That’s why we’re encouraging older adults and their concerned family members and friends to learn about the variety of ways they can avoid the leading causes of injury, like falls.
