Subject: | Agricultural Extension Centenary Resolution |
The Cooperative Extension System, signed into law by the federal Smith-Lever Act, has developed an education system that brings the resources and research capabilities of this nation’s land-grant universities to people’s homes and places of employment. For the past century, the program has tied together colleges and their communities in efforts to better educate the general populous on better agricultural, nutritional, and business practices. The research-based education this program has afforded to the nation’s agricultural sector especially has helped establish the United States as a leader in the world’s agriculture market. Penn State is Pennsylvania’s only land-grant university and its outreach efforts through Cooperative Extension are an invaluable part of our Pennsylvania agricultural economy. Please consider joining me as a co-sponsor for this resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Smith-Lever Act, and the contribution the Cooperative Extension System has made to the economies of our communities and of this nation. |
