Subject: | Resolution Designating March 13, 2014, as "K9 Veterans and Services Day" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating March 13, 2014, as “K9 Veterans and Services Day” in the Commonwealth to recognize the important services provided by dogs, their trainers, handlers, and others who have helped save and protect human life through military and law enforcement efforts. Joseph J. White, although now deceased, always pushed to recognize the canine heroes. Mr. White was a retired military working dog handler who established an annual K9 Veterans Day on March 13, which is the day the official United States K9 Corps was created in 1942 for service in World War II and beyond. Mr. White believed strongly that canines provide crucial services to their law enforcement and military handlers resulting in many lives being saved, and thus deserve special recognition. Today, canine services include dogs and their handlers, trainers, and other helpers who are all involved in customs, search and rescue, border patrol, police services, secret service, drug enforcement and many other capacities. In my view, they all have earned our thanks for their efforts to protect our Commonwealth’s and our nation’s way of life due to efforts to prevent and fight crime and terrorism. I hope you will join with me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
