MEMORANDUM

Subject: Purple Up For Military Kids 2013

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution that will name April 2013 “Month of the Military Child” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

This month would recognize the sacrifice that the 32,000 children of our Pennsylvanian military personnel make during their father’s or mother’s military service. The resolution will spread awareness of what the rest of the family goes through while their loved one is serving their country. It also seeks to emphasize how much these families are a source of inspiration and pride for the American people.

To spread awareness, everyone across the state of Pennsylvania is encouraged to wear purple on April 15, 2013. The color purple symbolizes all the branches of the military; combining Army Green, Coast Guard Blue, Air Force Blue, Marine Red, and Navy Blue.

To help spread the awareness further, media outlets will be encouraged to write articles on the “Month of the Military Child”. Schools, sports teams, youth organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, fraternal organizations, and rotary groups will all be encouraged to wear purple to show their support for the children of these active military members. Photos of the participants can then be posted on the State 4-H website, where military youth and families from across the state can see them.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation.
