Subject: “Older Pennsylvanians Month”

Date: March 4, 2013

I request your co-sponsorship for resolution that will declare the month of May 2013 as “Older Pennsylvanians Month” in the Commonwealth.

May has been traditionally recognized as Older Americans Month and, this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced that the theme for Older Americans Month 2013 is “Unleash the Power of Age”.

I believe that older adults deserve recognition for the contributions that they have made and will continue to make. It is essential that we continue to increase opportunities for older Pennsylvanians to remain active and engaged in community life and to provide individualized service and support systems to maintain their dignity, independence and self-determination.
