Subject: Co-Sponsorship: KIRKLAND - Condolence Resolution for former Chief of Police Deacon Floyd C. Lewis III

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution expressing condolences and appreciation of the life of former Chief of Police Deacon Floyd C. Lewis III, who passed away January 15, 2013.

Floyd C. Lewis III, born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, was a longtime Chester resident and an example of positivity for the communities he worked to protect. Lewis was born and raised in Chester, graduated from Chester High School, and held degrees from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, and The Pennsylvania State University. Lewis joined the City of Chester Police Department as a patrolman in 1973,was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 1995, and was transferred to the Detective Division as Detective Sergeant a year later; his dedication to public service was clear.

Lewis was known as a great leader, who was supportive of his officers, and who took great care of his community. In June of 1999, Deacon Floyd C. Lewis work earned him a promotion to Patrol Major, and he was named Deputy Chief of Police in 2006; in 2008, Lewis was named Police Chief, a position he held for 2 years.

Deacon Floyd C. Lewis was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Epsilon Pi chapter, and a member of the Community Baptist Church, where he eventually became Deacon, as well as the Vice President of the Trustee Board. In addition, Lewis was a past treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police. Lewis was a well-respected leader and member of his church, community, police department, and his family.
