Subject: | Water Analysis Results from DEP and Gas & Oil Operators |
I plan to introduce legislation which will assist land owners in obtaining information from DEP and oil and gas operators pertaining to possible contamination resulting from oil and gas development and exploration. Testing private and community water supplies for contamination before, during and after oil and gas operations has become an important component in protecting landowners and water purveyors in our oil and gas regions. However, homeowners and landowners are often frustrated when trying to obtain test results from DEP and oil and gas operators. To better enable both the protection of our water supplies and assist our land owners and water purveyors in this regard, my legislation requires oil and gas well operators conducting water analyses in accordance with Title 58 to provide the complete results of any analysis, including all related data and documentation to DEP. This proposal further requires DEP to make available these same results and those of any such test conducted at DEP’s request, the landowner or water purveyor. This legislation will help ensure both the accuracy of these tests and greater transparency in government by providing all related information to landowners and water purveyors. GE/clz |
