Subject: | Co-Sponsor- Resolution Designating February 8, 2013 as "Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing former House Resolution 44 designating February 8, 2013 as "Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania. Peripartum Cardiomyopathy is a rare disorder in which a weakened heart is diagnosed within the final month of pregnancy or within 5 months after delivery. In the United States, Peripartum Cardiomyopathy complicates 1 in every 1,300 - 4,000 deliveries and may occur in childbearing women of any age. Recent effective treatments have progressively improved both survival and recovery (95% or more), without the need for heart transplant, giving women improved heart function and the ability to live a full life. Therefore, it is important that we designate February 8, 2013 as "Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day" and continue to research more effective treatments and early detection. If you have any questions, please contact Alycia Laureti via e-mail at alaureti@pahouse.net or via phone at 2-2283. PREVIOUS COSPONSORS: BAKER , BISHOP , BRADFORD, BURNS, CALTAGIRONE , D.
