MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 13, 2012 09:19 AM
From: Representative Jerry Knowles
To: All House members
Subject: Infrastructure Future Fund

I will be re-introducing legislation that will address some of the transportation infrastructure problems facing our state.

As you know, the Commonwealth's roads and bridges are in deplorable condition. Pennsylvania has more than 5,600 structurally deficient bridges and over 7,000 miles of roads in poor condition. Pennsylvania’s Transportation Advisory Committee, in May 2010, reported the state needs an additional $3.5 billion a year to meet its highway, bridge, and transit needs.

With this in mind, shortly, I will introduce legislation that will dedicate each and every penny generated from the sale of the state liquor stores to improving the conditions of Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges. This legislation is taking an antiquated state asset and investing its worth into the roads, bridges, and infrastructure Pennsylvanians need to create jobs, spur economic growth, and build a brighter future.
