Subject: | Fragrance Free Schools Act |
Recently, I met with a constituent who has an allergy to scented products (such as Axe Body Spray) that is so bad that he has been unable to attend his local high school. In fact, due to fellow students wearing such scented products, he has almost died from his allergic reaction while attending school. This young man is committed to furthering his education and would like the ability to attend his high school without fear of his allergy. This legislation would allow students who have a fragrance allergy to contact their school or school board to advise them of their condition. Once notified the school or school board will be required to develop a written policy that will be distributed with the code of conduct required under 22 Pa. Code Section 12.3(c) (relating to school rules). The policy will prohibit students, faculty and staff from using scented products in that school in which the student is enrolled. |
