Subject: | 70th Anniversary of V-E Day |
In the very near future, I plan on introducing a resolution recognizing the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day or V-E Day, celebrated annually on May 8. V-E Day celebrates the date when the Allies during the Second World War formally celebrated the defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolph Hitler’s Reich. On May 8, 1945 “Victory in Europe Day” was proclaimed and observed in Western Europe, Great Britain, the United States and Canada. On that day in the United States, President Harry S. Truman celebrated his 61st birthday and dedicated the Allied victory to the memory of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who died April 12, 1945. Please join me in co-sponsoring this very important Resolution. |
