MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 8, 2014 02:26 PM
From: Representative Stan Saylor
To: All House members
Subject: Extending Act 13 Chapter 27 Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program

As part of Pennsylvania’s efforts to remain stewards of the environment while developing the unconventional gas sector, Act 13 of 2012 was signed into law. Chapter 27 of this act created a three-year Natural Gas Vehicle Program which allocated $20 million in grant funds for the purchase and/or conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, or bi-fuel.

Eligible applicants include Commonwealth or municipal authorities, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, non-profit and for-profit companies, local transportation systems, and state-related universities.

We are now approaching the end of that three-year term for the Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program. My legislation would enact an additional two-year extension of the program with funding limited to $2.5 million for each additional year.

As the industry continues to evolve, so will the ignition of additional domestic job creation which will help rejuvenate our economy. I would like to continue to support development of the natural gas industry and I hope you will join me in this effort.
