Subject: Protecting Patients’ Reproductive Healthcare Information
 
The overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 removes the federal constitutional right to privacy with respect to abortion and reproductive care. Individuals in need of abortion services or other reproductive healthcare who live in states where these services are now banned or severely restricted may now find themselves with no option but to seek care in states like Pennsylvania, where those services remain legal.

Several states where abortion is restricted or banned have already attempted to pursue or announced their intent to pursue criminal or civil action against patients who cross state lines to receive reproductive care. 

For this reason, we are introducing legislation that will prohibit health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, or healthcare providers in Pennsylvania from disclosing information about a person’s reproductive health services without the patient’s express written consent, or where specifically authorized or required by federal or state law.

Please join us in protecting the privacy of patients and preserving access to essential reproductive healthcare services in our commonwealth.
