Subject: | Expanding Voter Registration Opportunities for Hunters, Trappers, and Anglers |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a bill that would provide hunters and anglers with the opportunity to register to vote when they are purchasing their hunting and/or fishing licenses. Under this proposal, hunters, trappers, and anglers would be asked if they want to register to vote when they are purchasing a license. This is optional, not automatic voter registration, and the same citizenship and eligibility requirements would apply as they always have for newly registered voters. This process would mirror the current registration option given to applicants of SNAP and Medicaid during the application process. Our hunters, trappers, and anglers deserve the same convenience. Providing lawfully eligible individuals with a convenient and secure opportunity to register to vote is a goal we all share, and doing so via legislation is a reminder of the appropriate way to make changes to our voting system – through the legislative process. Please join me in support of increasing voter registration opportunities in the Commonwealth. |
