Subject: | PA Korean VALOR Act |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would amend Title 51 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to grant the same rights, benefits, and privileges of United States military veterans to any resident of the Commonwealth who is both a Vietnam War veteran of the Korean Armed Forces and a duly naturalized citizen of the United States. There are over 3,000 naturalized Korean American citizens who served in the Vietnam War as a part of the Korean Armed Forces. Hundreds of these vital American allies, who fought with tremendous valor and honor alongside U.S. forces, now call Pennsylvania home. They have made their lives and homes in this country and are entitled to as much respect as their US military counterparts. My legislation, modeled after the Federal Korean American Vietnam Allies Long Overdue for Relief Act (VALOR Act), would afford any Pennsylvania resident who is an American citizen, was an active-duty member of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces in the Vietnam War between the dates of January 9th, 1962, and May 7th, 1975, and received an honorable discharge or equivalent discharge from military service the same rights and state benefits as their American military veteran counterparts. Please consider joining me in this effort to serve these unrecognized veterans who gave so much alongside our brave Vietnam era veterans by co-sponsoring this legislation. |
