Subject: Cutting Red Tape for Hunting Licensing Agents

I plan to introduce legislation to lower the price of entry for small businesses looking to become hunting license issuing agents.

Currently, sporting goods stores are permitted to issue hunting licenses, provided they undergo approval and meet the necessary qualifications. These businesses then serve as the vehicle through which thousands of Pennsylvanians purchase their licenses.

Recently, a constituent and small business owner informed me that before Pennsylvania issuing agents can start selling licenses, they are required to furnish an $18,000 surety bond along with a letter of credit.

While big box stores may see this expense as a drop in the bucket, it is a costly government mandate for small sporting goods stores. My legislation will reduce the cost of these surety bonds to make it possible for small businesses to participate.

Cutting red tape is good for small businesses, and in this case, is also good for promoting hunting in Pennsylvania. I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
