Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 6, 2023 01:57 PM
From: Senator Judith L. Schwank
To: All Senate members
Subject: Primary Care Investment Task Force

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would establish a Primary Care Investment Task Force to examine if financial expenditures for primary care services provided by physicians are meeting the needs of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

The health and proper care of Pennsylvanians is of the utmost importance. Simply put, primary care services help people live healthier and longer lives. Time and time again, it has been proven that a greater investment in primary care is associated with lower health care costs, higher patient satisfaction, fewer hospitalizations and emergency department visits, improved health outcomes, and longer life expectancy.

To shine a light on how and where health care dollars are being allocated by our complex health care infrastructure, the Primary Care Investment Task Force will take a detailed and objective look at where Pennsylvania stands when it comes to primary care investments compared to other states. Building off their findings, the task force will also identify what can be done to bolster investment in this important segment of our health care system.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this essential legislation that will help the Commonwealth develop the most effective and achievable means for improving the health and well-being of all Pennsylvanians.

Introduced as SB809
