Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 6, 2023 10:38 AM
From: Senator Lindsey M. Williams
To: All Senate members
Subject: Pennsylvania Energy and Water Efficiency Standards Act

I will soon be re-introducing Senate Bill 601 from the 2021-2022 legislative session.

The cheapest, cleanest form of energy is the energy that we do not produce at all, which can be achieved simply by using energy efficient appliances. Adopting energy efficiency standards for appliances can play a critical role in helping Pennsylvania tackle climate change, reduce air pollution, conserve our water resources, and save the Commonwealth’s consumers and businesses money on their utility bills.

In honor of today’s World Energy Efficiency Day, I am announcing the reintroduction of legislation to set energy efficiency and water conservation standards for commercial and residential appliances sold in the Commonwealth. Research shows that these efficiency standards could reduce climate pollution by an estimated 356 tons, conserve over 6 billion gallons of water, and save consumers approximately $238 million a year on their utility bills by 2030. Appliances that meet these standards are already on the market, competitively priced, and available to Pennsylvania consumers and businesses today.

Senate Bill 601 was previously co-sponsored by Senators Bartolotta, Kearney, Tartaglione, Fontana, Costa, Muth, Comitta, Cappelletti, Collett, Kane, and Dillon.

Please join me in protecting the health, environment, and pocketbooks of Pennsylvania’s residents and businesses by sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as SB755
