Subject: | Increasing the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Homeowner and Renter Income Limits by $5,000 |
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The current income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded. My legislation would increase both the homeowner and renter income limit by $5,000. This would make the new limit $40,000 for homeowners and $20,000 for renters (still with half of Social Security income excluded). The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Since the program’s 1971 inception, older and disabled adults have received more than $7.3 billion in property tax and rent relief. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to ensure Pennsylvanians in the most need can receive this much-needed relief. |
