Subject: | Pennsylvania Preemption Statute Regarding Firearms and Ammunition |
In the near future, I plan on re-introducing Senate Bill 448 of last session. This legislation provides for Pennsylvania State Preemption over firearms and ammunition regulations. Where no uniform state laws are in place, the result can be chaotic, as restrictions change from one local jurisdiction to another. It is unreasonable to require residents of Pennsylvania and citizens passing through from other states to be aware of every firearm ordinance as they pass through each local jurisdiction. Specifically, this legislation would prevent local jurisdictions from imposing ordinances more restrictive than laws passed by the General Assembly. This legislation will also enhance and restore the original intent of the Uniform Firearms Act. This legislation seeks to build on the good points of previous versions while including language reflective of discussions aimed at making this piece of legislation better. It is my hope that these changes contribute to a solid piece of legislation to enforce our State laws. Previous co-sponsors to this legislation were: Bartolotta, Martin, DiSanto, Pittman, K.Ward, J.Ward, Phillips-Hill, Yaw, Hutchinson, Argall, Stefano, Mastriano, Robinson, Regan, Brewster, Aument, Vogel, and Brooks. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
