Subject: | Prohibition on Rent Rebates to be Assigned to Landlords |
Please join me in sponsoring legislation, which was reintroduced as Senate Bill 747 last session. This bill would make it unlawful for a landlord and tenant to enter into any agreement that requires a tenant to pay or assign to the landlord any part of a rent rebate to which the tenant is entitled under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2006. The Attorney General’s Office is granted the authority to enforce this act. Further, any landlord who violates the act would be required to fully reimburse the tenant for any portion of payment, along with penalties and interest on the total amount of the payment, to which the tenant was entitled. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this legislation. Senators Fontana, Hughes, Tartaglione, Brewster, Kane, Muth, Haywood, Cappelletti, and Dillon previously co-sponsored this bill. |
