| Subject: | Ensuring All Residential Homeowners Have Access to Solar Energy |
| In the near future, I will re-introduce legislation that will ensure homeowners’ associations (HOA) allow for the installation of solar panels and solar energy systems on homes within their communities. This was previously Senate Bill 826 from the 2021-2022 session. This is part of a legislative package that will expand state level support to Pennsylvania residents who desire to install solar energy systems on their homes but currently face various barriers preventing them from accessing this renewable energy source. Pennsylvania should be encouraging the use of solar power and green energy systems on residential homes as a way to derive clean pure energy from the sun. These systems are not only beneficial for the environment and combat greenhouse gas emission, but they also offer significant savings on individual energy bills and can reduce our collective dependence on fossil fuels. Solar systems are silent, pollution-free, and have no impact on neighboring homes. As the cost of solar systems continues to decline and the benefits increase, more and more Pennsylvanians will be interested in pursuing the use of solar power at home. Solar is also a job creation investment Pennsylvania should be supporting. This legislation will explicitly ensure that all homeowners have the right to install solar panels and solar energy on their homes, even those who are members of an HOA. Please join me in cosponsoring legislation that will increase residential access to solar energy. |
