Subject: | Establishing a Fund for Victims of Corporate Greed |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation that will provide financial assistance to Pennsylvanians who have been the victims of corporate greed. Pennsylvania provides billions of dollars in subsidies and tax breaks to corporate giants who utilize tax avoidance loopholes – and year after year, our state budget prioritizes corporate profit over people. The “profit at all costs” mentality of these corporations continue to harm Pennsylvanians and in some instances ruin their quality of life. Whether it is the residents of Susquehanna County who have been without water for over a decade because of the environmental harms caused by the fracking industry or the families of Beaver County facing dire health conditions resulting from the Norfolk Southern derailment in neighboring East Palestine, OH, these people need our help and deserve the support of our state government. My legislation will create a fund using $500 million of the Commonwealth’s Rainy Day Fund to provide financial resources to Pennsylvanians impacted by corporate greed. The fund will be reassessed annually to ensure that at least 75% of the applications are funded. It is time that we fight back against corruption, fight back against corporate greed and start legislating protections for Pennsylvanians and their families. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. |
