Subject: | Updating the Poll Worker Oath in the Election Code |
I am introducing legislation to modernize the oath that Pennsylvania poll workers take. A constituent who serves as a poll worker during the primary and general elections requested this legislation. This legislation would add gender neutral language to the oath instead of the antiquated language that only uses male identifiers and removes references of outdated electoral methods such as a poll worker tallying votes that are read by a Judge or Inspector of Elections. The vote tallying work is now completed by computers and county election workers. It is important that all Pennsylvanians, regardless of gender identification, feel represented when fulfilling their duty as valuable poll workers. Additionally, it is important that the oath represent the actual work that poll workers will take. I hope you will join me in supporting this targeted and important update to our Election Code. |
