MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 7, 2022 10:34 AM
From: Senator Maria Collett and Sen. Patrick J. Stefano
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Designating the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Hidden Heroes State

In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution that would designate the Commonwealth as a Hidden Heroes state. This legislation will serve as a companion to Representative Rabb’s HR 210.

Caregivers play a vital role in facilitating the recovery and rehabilitation of injured veterans. The assistance provided by caregivers allows our veterans to live at home rather than in facilities which reduces health care costs for veterans. This level of care takes a substantial amount of time and effort. Being a caregiver in this setting can impose extensive physical, emotional, and financial burdens on caregivers, which can lead to burn-out and shortages.

To acknowledge the profound commitment of caretakers and address the challenges and long-term needs that these caregivers face, this resolution would designate the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Hidden Heroes state. As a Hidden Heroes state, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation will work with partners to help with the amplification and dissemination of vital caregiver resources, such as no-cost respite relief, which will ultimately help ensure their continued ability to provide efficient care to veterans.

We invite you to join us in cosponsoring this important legislation.
