Subject: Resolution Designating September 2022 as "Suicide Prevention Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania
 
Please join me in introducing a resolution designating September 2022 as “Suicide Prevention Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.
 
Approximately, 1,694 Commonwealth residents lost their lives to suicide in 2020 and an estimated quarter-million survive their attempt every year. Education, support and awareness are vital in the fight against mental health struggles that can lead to suicide. By creating awareness, we can highlight warning signs and teach effective intervention strategies to reduce suicidal deaths.
 
It has been my honor to work with a group in my district called the Jana Marie Foundation that focuses on promoting mental well-being among young people in the Centre County Region. Named after Jana Marie Vicere, who lost her battle to depression in 2011, the foundation continues Jana’s commitment to helping others.
 
We all play a vital role in combating suicide and mental health struggles.  Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
