Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 31, 2022 09:19 AM
From: Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti and Sen. Nikil Saval
To: All Senate members
Subject: A Resolution recognizing the month of April 2022 as Fair Housing Month in Pennsylvania.

In the coming days, we will be introducing a resolution that recognizes April as “Fair Housing Month” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Fifty-four years ago, the Fair Housing Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The Fair Housing Act prevents discrimination in the sale, rental, or financing of housing based on race, color, sex, familiar status, religious creed, ancestry, age, national origin, handicap, or disability. In Pennsylvania, residents are still fighting for fair housing on the basis of gender, marital status, and sexual orientation; and until these basic needs are protected, people will be legally discriminated against when trying to find a home in the Commonwealth. It is our shared duty to ensure that every person has equitable access to all of the opportunities that our communities provide regardless of where they live.

Fair Housing Month reminds us that fair housing is a fundamental human right to which all people are entitled. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution as we continue to fight for safe, fair, and equitable housing for all.
